Piano Cover: Airplanes and Gravity of Love

I’ve been terribly neglectful of my blog lately. But wait, I have a really great excuse: I’ve been writing like a fiend amped up on too many Red Bulls. Except there hasn’t actually been any Red Bulls involved, so maybe I should try one and see what happens. Maybe that’s the trick to completing a manuscript. Just drink Red Bull.

Option number two is to find your favorite inspirational songs as piano covers on YouTube, then listen to them for hours while the words flow. Forget the Red Bull (but not the coffee—everyone’s gotta have some sort of crutch). I’m all about the second idea. I love music as much as I do reading and writing. Music has always played a huge part in my life, to the point where I’ll hear a song from years ago and will be transported back to that moment.

Naturally, music inspires creativity in me. I might be able to edit without it, but I’ve found that the words refuse to spill without it in my ears. So every so often I’m going to post a couple of my latest YouTube discoveries. The piano is a beautiful instrument, and you might be surprised to find how many talented musicians play covers of popular songs. This week I’ve been stuck on “Airplanes” by B.O.B (featuring Hayley Williams). One other song that has haunted me lately is “Gravity of Love” by Enigma. With or without the lyrics, this song is amazing.

So when you find yourself without inspiration, take a look on YouTube—you’ll never know what you might find, or better yet, what mood it might inspire in your writing.

So to recap, this week’s picks:

Airplanes by B.O.B. (featuring Hayley Williams)
Gravity of Love by Enigma

Happy listening!

  1. Well I agree with you, Christina. Music helps me get in the mood of whatever I write. Only glitch with me is I often have a song in my head and I need to find the exact same sort of music online to have the words pouring out of me. Gordon Lightfoot did that for me in Mirror Deep.

  2. Sounds like we have a lot in common. I just can't seem to write unless I'm listening to music. Thanks for stopping by!
